White blood cells help the body fight infection and other diseases. As part of the body's immune system white blood cells, also known as leukocytes, flow through the bloodstream to fight foreign invaders that threaten health. When the body is in distress and a particular area is under attack, white blood cells rush in to help destroy the harmful substance and prevent illness. White blood cells are made in the bone marrow and are stored in the blood and lymph tissues.
